Here in main engineering aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise E you will find many trained and knowledgeable engineers. Some sit neatly at organized computer LCARS panels monitoring and adjusting various engineering related ship functions while others investigate computer activity on the famous "pool table". Some more daring officers adjust plasma conduits along the catwalks high above the lower engineering deck.

These engineers work together to create files, images, and programs for
Ten Forward - A Star Trek Chat.

To improve effectiveness and efficiency of chat operations, Ten Forward - The Interactive Star Trek Chat is managed and maintained through the combined efforts of various departments. Engineering is one of these departments. Each department manages a specific faction of Ten Forward and concentrates its efforts to improve Ten Forward through all aspects relating to that faction. By working as a team, we at Ten Forward are able to share our thoughts, ideas, strategies, and abilities to accomplish more than the individual could. It is this which makes Ten Forward one of the more unique chat sites on the internet. As of now, our executive (consisting of department leaders and administrators) has a total of 28 members - this does not count the others who play a vital role in departmental work. We are proud to say many parts of Ten Forward have been designed and implemented through the combined efforts of people across the entire globe. Our goal is continuous, and thus far it has been met.
"...to boldly go where no chat has gone before."

The Department of Engineering is coordinated by a head, deputy and vice-deputy. Together, along with a team of selected officers they work to create and implement new files, programs, images and systems for Ten Forward, as well as improve existing ones. This department consists of individuals who have had experience with either HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), computer graphics design / imagery or some form of programming language (JavaScript, Java, Perl, C++, Pascal) and are motivated to use their talents to better Ten Forward. Tasks to accomplish can be allocated to this department by any department head, or anyone in the administrations department.

The Department of Engineering is open to applications and encourages those experienced with internet programming to participate. If you would like to apply for a position in the Engineering department, use the application form (a link is posted to your left). We also have assembled a list of useful links to sites containing information regarding aspects of web development - HTML, JavaScript, imagery and CGI scripting. The sites linked there would be extremely useful if you seek a tutorial or guide.

As mentioned earlier, Ten Forward has several departments. The other departments also have homepages - you may be interested in viewing them as well. Links to these sites are as follows:
