Stranded
by the Kazon on the planet Hanon IV, the crew of the U.S.S. Voyager is forced
to defend against the planet's primitive inhabitants. Following the death
of Lieutenant Hogan by an unknown creature in nearby caves, and the disappearance
of Kes and Neelix, the crew is Forced to fashion primitive weapons in order
to survive, even though Ensign Wildman's baby is nearly dead. But during
a violent volcano, both the primitives and the crew are forced into the
same area. After Chakotay saves a primitive woman from a pool of lava, it
forms a friendship between the primitives and the crew.
Seska
takes her newborn to sickbay where she discovers Maje Culluh is the father
of her baby, not Chakotay. Meanwhile, Maje Culluh is in command of the
Starship Voyager, and plots to attack other Kazon sects with 'his' new
ship. The only chance for regaining the vessel weighs upon Ensign Suder
and the holographic doctor -- the last of the crew still on the starship.
When Lt. Paris, who earlier escaped the crossfire between the Kazon and
Voyager with a shuttle, successfully makes Voyager overload, thanks to
the help of the Talaxians and Suder. When Maje Cullah orders his crew
to abandon the ship, he finds Seska dead next to his child. He takes the
child and leaves the ship.
When
the alien leader treats Ensign Wildman's baby, which restores it back
to health. While Wildman and Janeway smile at the alien to thank him,
a primitive shouts out and alerts everyone toward the sky-- it's Voyager.
Once everyone is on board, The Doctor tells how Suder helped the crew
to Lt. Tuvok. And Chakotay looks over the corpse of Seska, and puts the
blanket over her head.
